More than a year ago I purchased some alcohol markers. I didn’t use them until recently. There was something blocking me, a fear of not being capable of using that medium. I kept them on my desk, never touching them, dreaming about a time I would be magically able to use them… good God the idiocy.
A few weeks ago it finally happened.
I was inspired by the Hindu deity Hanuman, one of my favourite figures, dedicated, brave, capable of impossible endeavours, unstoppable.

I see the imperfections in this drawing, but I love it anyway. My first attempt at using alcohol markers is impressive to my eyes. It gives me a sense of strength, peace, I find this illustration beautiful also because I know where I come from, a place of insecurity and fear of not being capable.
There’s still work to do to become a master with alcohol markers, and with drawing in general, but what does being a master even mean when it comes to art? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there’s no standard, only personal taste.
